05/07/12
Today is my mom's birthday. Yes I know this blog is all about are work, literally, but this is a special day for me and a very sad one so I just want to say something:

Happy birthday mom, I love you so much and I hope you have a great vacation.

So now to the work of the day. When we arrived at the orphanage we were greeted by many people and we saw Ret the oldest kid who dose not live at the orphanage but comes every day to see us. Ret has 5 siblings at the orphanage. Ret has a mom who is HIV positive and he lives with her in the slums. He works to pay for the food and other expenses because his mom can not. He was going to work but didn't because he wanted to help us with our projects to improve his siblings life at the orphanage, and to play with us. It is sad and empowering that he works so hard, not for himself, but also for his mom and to keep them alive; that is real love. Ret has 3 jobs: he sells newspaper. pours concrete in the capitol, and 1 other that I can not recall.

First we had to mop the stage and clean the children's bathroom. When we do the work the children do it so it is important to clean both the stage and the bath room every 2 days. The stage was easy because it just had dirt and it is were the orphans eat sleep and play so it was important. Then Bret and I cleaned the bathroom but it very important because when they see us doing it they want to do it and the bathrooms needed to be cleaned because there is only 1 for the kids. That was not fun but it was a consequence because of our unclean room. It was done and over within 30 minutes.

Then in the after noon Bret and I helped build the frame of the roof for the new pigpen. It will shelter the pig in the rainy season and will cool her of in the summer because of the shade the roof provides and that was very fun work because I love to build so I had much fun.
